SHAPING GROSMONT

The challenge: How can a pop-up event help collect the stories and ideas from local people?

Shaping Grosmont was a pop up event was held over two days to build evidence for change in a rural Monmouthshire village. The content of the two day event, held in the Nave of St Nicholas Church, was curated by a creative practitioner in collaboration with local people who were invited to a planning workshop on to discuss the format and activities for the event. Over the two days included representatives from BRO, Rural Futures and a creative practitioner who led the activities.

The Nave was run as a drop in space for people to explore the history and heritage of the village and surrounding areas through historic photos and films. Beyond the team there was excellent support from members of the community who helped with collecting and setting up a display of historical artefacts and photos and contributing to activities considering the village now and into the future. The outcome was a focus on considering the community ownership of the village hall and its renovation as a space to bring the community together.
