Places to visit
Tourism makes a vital contribution to the economy of Wales. Year-round tourist attractions are essential to the prosperity and well-being of the area and the local economy. Many places thrive for the summer months but close down during the winter. While this brings economic benefits, it can also have some negative impacts such as inflating property prices, increasing air pollution and traffic, and placing additional strain on public services. As RTPI describe, there is a balance to be found between attracting tourism and the value it brings to local businesses [1].
It is important to protect traditional attractions and facilities, explore new opportunities for tourism, and promote off-peak seasons attractions, whilst safeguarding environmental and heritage qualities. Encouraging outdoor activities such as cycling, walking and environmental and heritage tourism could help sustain the tourism industry and local communities.
